International Festival - County Booth Representatives Needed

Attention: Parents, Student Ambassadors, Teachers and Staff of WAIS,

The International Fair / Garage Sale 2010 – Friday, April 23 & Saturday, April 24

This year's events will potentially be even more spectacular than last year's, as Westchester is celebrating its 10th anniversary on the same day: Friday, April 23, 2010!

Like in the past years, the International Fair will continue into Saturday April 24 and together with the Garage Sale and Clubs' Fundraising Activities will draw large numbers of WAIS and surrounding communities.

To kick preparations off we are asking parents, students, teachers and staff to sign up to host or participate in a Country booth during school hours on Friday, April 23. The booths can include a display of information, history, music, items and food representative of the selected country. The students will be allowed to visit the booths during their lunch hours to complete a passport answering questions from each Country’s booth. Our country representatives had a great time hosting the booths last year. Complete the short online Booth Sign-up form. Please respond by Thursday, March 4^th.

In order to make this big event an equally big success, the WAIS PTA will need everybody's help and participation. We proved last year that WAIS parents, students, teachers and staff could create a wonderful and memorable event, and this time we have the opportunity to make an even larger impact on the community, as many invitees and dignitaries from the District and the greater Houston area are scheduled to attend and celebrate 10 years of WAIS with us!

WAIS PTA Dinner and a Show Fundraiser – Sat., March 6, 5–7 pm

Save the date to enjoy a great dinner and socialize with other WAIS families.

The cost of the dinner is $5.00 per person and will include: (2) fajitas (beef or chicken), toppings, rancho beans, rice, chips/salsa, dessert and a beverage. What a deal!!

After dinner take in the WAIS theatre’s final showing of the spring play, A.R. Gurney’s – The Dining Room – showtime 7:30 pm. Tickets for the show are available separately on the Theatre website: www.waistheatre.com or at the door before the event.

The proceeds from this event will help fund the PTA sponsored programs and projects with the goal of promoting learning opportunities for students, supporting our teachers, reaching parents through communications and improving the campus.

Reserve your dinner ticket today! If you plan on attending the dinner, please complete the information on the following link. PTA DINNER RESERVATION (This will help us get a head count for planning the food. A limited amount of dinner tickets will be available at the door.)

THE STORY: The play is set in the dining room of a typical well-to-do household, the place where the family assembled daily for breakfast and dinner and for any and all special occasions. The action is comprised of a mosaic of interrelated scenes,some funny, some touching, some rueful, which, taken together, create an in-depth portrait of a vanishing species: the upper-middle-class WASP. The actors change roles, personalities and ages with virtuoso skill as they portray a wide variety of characters, from little boys to stern grandfathers, and from giggling teenage girls to Irish housemaids. Each vignette introduces a new set of people and events; a father lectures his son on grammar and politics; a boy returns from boarding school to discover his mother's infidelity; a senile grandmother doesn't recognize her own sons at Christmas dinner; a daughter, her marriage a shambles, pleads futilely to return home. Dovetailing swiftly and smoothly, the varied scenes coalesce, ultimately, into a theatrical experience of exceptional range, compassionate humor and abundant humanity.

There is still time for your student to participate in the Environmental Awareness Contest. The deadline for entries is February 25th. Entries can be turned in to the main office or we'll take them in the WAIS drop-off line that morning.

For the entry, come up with one of the following relating to the theme, "100 Years From Now. . . ".

Print ad (hand or computer generated, on 8 1/2 x 11 paper)
Photograph (not larger than 8 x 10)
News article (not more than 500 words)
Video or audio public service announcement (30 seconds)

Teacher Appreciation Lunch - Feb. 23, Donations & Volunteers Needed

Please join us in expressing our support and gratitude for WAIS teachers and staff. The PTA is hosting our second Teacher Appreciation Lunch of the school year on Tuesday, February 23rd in the school library.

We will be having a baked potato bar with all the fixin’s. Your help is needed in any or all of the following ways:

Donate a salad or dessert. These items may be brought to the office or library on Tuesday morning.
Donate $5-$10 to cover the food costs. Place your money (checks payable To WAIS PTA) in an envelope and drop off at the main office.
Volunteer your time on the day of the lunch to help setup, serve, and cleanup during one of the following shifts:

8:30-10:30 am - set up
10:30-12:30 pm - serving
12:30-2:30 pm - final serving and cleanup
